Besides the consolidated experience in the field of two stroke engines, the LucanEngine is engaged in the study of high performances four stroke engines. The activities are focalized on the investigation of the internal flows of the ROTAX V990 RR engine, installed on Aprilia RSV1000 Factory. The results obtained in the first phases of development of the above-mentioned engine have been applied successfully on a competition vehicle. The work  has principally concerned the manufacturing of the intake manifolds  and exhaust once, with remodeled geometries and differently finished surfaces, and the enlargement of the end diameters of ducts. Nearby to the interventions executed on the internal flows, guaranteed since several hours of flow test bench, our work has regarded the modification of crankshaft, lightening of rotational masses, different cams profiles have been adopted (intake and exhaust) and, due to the different operating conditions cheked on ours dyno-benches we have developed new calibration maps adopting additional commercial electronics devices. After the mentioned activity we obtained a developed power of about 10% in terms of torque and power. All the performed tests have highlighted a net improvement of the drivability, due to the extremely regular and constant output torque.
